Interview with ANDREW SCOTT

Andrew Scott builds his own guitars.  He is a musician and artist, he has played in many bands, including the amazing, yet underknown, glam rock/space rock (both after and before such things were de rigeur) Burning Brain.

What’s up:
Nothing much at the moment.

Where are you from:
Houston

Where are you now:
Los Angeles

What got you started:
Watching others thinking “I could do that better”

What else do you do:
Art, building guitars

What are you reading:
Destination:Void by Frank Herbert

What comedy and/or comedians are you into:
Zack Galifianakis at the moment, about a million others.

What are you listening to, lately:
The Tubes(their 70’s stuff), The Residents, Bryan Ferry(In Your Mind), The Runaways, Leslie West, Lothar and the Hand People, a lot of others

What art, if any, you seen worth talking about:
Tony Oursler(an excellent video artist), several friends of mine are doing great things.

Worked any fucked-up jobs?
Do tell: Too many to go into here. I’ll just sum it up by saying working in the food industry is hell on earth, in most cases. If parents really want their kids to do good in school, then, uh..nevermind.

Played any fucked-up shows:
Yes. One time the singer from the last band I was in jumped off the stage to go fight some guy in the audience who was provoking him. I can understand though, I almost did the same thing at another show in an old band of mine a long time ago. Good thing I didnt, I would probably have gotten killed.

Another time I had to pee so bad that I had to leave the stage at a show in Berlin, when everthing was going really good. Maybe I should have pulled an Iggy Pop move and just peed onstage.

Then there have been the shows where nobody shows up. Those are fucked up.

With whom, if anyone, do you roll:
A few close friends.

Are there any people you’d like to mention who’ve helped you work it out:
All my friends have been really helpful in my life.

People to look for:
Anyone you have something to gain from, without them minding too much, don’t be a nuisance to them.

People to look out for, because they are bad news:
The Mirror Man. The Girl with the laser beam ice cream.

Anything you have in the works, on the ready, or on the horizon:
I’m building guitars now and I am going to stick with just doing this. As far as music is concerned I never could settle on anything so I just do it less frequently. Maybe I’ll record again at some point. It is still great fun, of course.
